"Felt unclean and dirty"

"We booked a night in a family room, which, to our pleasant surprise, was actually a suite. The room was clean and well maintained, and the beds were comfortable. Although it is conveniently located near the motorway, the noise level was more than reasonable. There were two bathrooms — one with a toilet and sink, and one with a shower and sink — which was very convenient for our family of four. I found the bathrooms quite luxurious, especially after a bad experience in another hotel rated as four stars. Breakfast was also nice, with a good variety of sweet and savoury options and good coffee. The staff were kind and helpful, and overall, we had a really nice and restful time."

"A perfect base to discover Troyes. The hotel is next to the museum of modern art (definitely worth a visit) and the cathedral. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. There is limited parking on street at the side of the hotel. It was very hot when we visited and the excellent air conditioning in the room was a sleep saver. And speaking of sleep, or room had a large comfy bed. Staff were very helpful and friendly. "

"We (retired Brit couple) have stayed at Val Moret many times over 20 years or so. Dinner at the restaurant is always a highlight and the most recently acquired chef has increased the already delicious standards. Rooms are clean and comfortable, all one needs for a night’s journey stopover. (I suspect few people book a week’s holiday here but a few nights would be entirely reasonable). During 2025 there are building works progressing toward enlargement of the restaurant and reception. The work isn’t at all disruptive or intrusive, particularly for rooms further away. If the end result enhances the bar area that will be a great improvement, as the existing bar facilities are about the only thing that let the place down currently. We haven’t used the spa but it looks good. Finally, credit must be given to famille Marisy (and particularly to Mme, who apparently never sleeps) who work tirelessly for the comfort of their guests. It’s really good to see a family business thriving in this ever increasingly conglomerate dominated industry."

"An interesting and grand villa. Lovely secluded grounds with private parking. Large very comfortable bedroom. The management and staff were delightful, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great, just a shame that dinner wasn't being served the night before (not that this was promised). We would definitely stay again."

"Kettle in room but no cups or tea bags. Room small and cramped. Table and chairs outside room in small garden area, spoilt by smoking. Property not secure , gap in fence near our room, allowing access to our room from street"

"The hotel manager didn't care. All he wanted was money. The apartment we booked was for 4 motorcycle friends on a tour. We booked the apartment because it had 4 beds. The instructions by Expedia said contact the property 24 hours before arrival. Someone would then meet you at the property. We did this telling them we were arriving on motorcycles. We had no reply from the property manager. This was repeated 12 hours before arrival. Again no reply. We arrived at the apartment and phoned them. They told us we had to go to another location (St George Hotel) to get the keys. We left the bikes at the apartment and walked. When we arrived at the hotel we were told there was no parking and only two places at the hotel. We managed to find one at the apartment and fitted the other three into a small space at the hotel. We were given the keys to the apartment after a tangle over payment. We had paid in advance but they were asking for payment. That was sorted. We were given a key. Now at the apartment, the key didn't fit any of the doors. By luck we opened a garage door and found the apartment. Access was via a narrow and unsafe staircase. On entry it was dark and uninviting. There was no bedding for the sofa bed. The hotel manager was contacted and wanted more money for bedding. I ended up sleeping in my clothes with no bedding. There are so many other things to list, unsafe electrics, broken smoke detector. To much to list. Extremely poor. Why do Expedia promote this property?"

"If you want a truly old France experience, this is the place ! Lovely friendly couple who have turned their 19c priory into a b & b, retaining all the character and architecture of the period, as well as the furniture. Good bathroom facilities and good value for money. The surrounding rural area is stunning. "

"We had an amazing stay in this lovely hotel. So quirky and full of character. Beds - amazing, best sleep ever. Walkable everywhere in Troyes old town, plenty of restaurants and cafes on your door step, grocery shop 5 min walk away. Lovely owners and housekeeping girls. Will definitely stay again as we are in this area often visiting my husband’s family. Definitely recommend!"

"Room was like a dormitory! Very dated facilities that are in need of modernisation. Very expensive for what it is. Disappointed that the swimming pool was not open - it was not noted on the website about being closed over winter. Also disappointed that as guests we would have to pay €6 per person for the mini golf - extortionate price. Good meal at the restaurant though."

"Very old building but with so much character. We only stopped overnight but as a family of 5 it was perfect. Clean and lots of space. Shower needs updating and a bit of soap would have been handy but otherwise great. I’d stay again!"
